Getting fit in the Fall

Fall is among us

With fall now here, so is the cooler weather, hoodies and the preparation of winter. But don’t give up on staying healthy through this cooler months. Don’t wait til spring to get that bathing suit figure. That it from me, it takes more than just a month of two to lose those inches and firming up for the summer months.

Fall is a great time to start those exercise routines. It takes 30 days to start a good routine with anything. Once you have set a good routine, it will be easier to keep up with your routine. With less to do outside, and more people starting to spend time inside, why not start your fitness routine in the fall? With summer being 8 months away, just imagine how many inches you can lose in that amount of time. Don’t wait until you only have just a few months to drop all those inches. Losing weight and getting fit does take time. We don’t have that miracle pill yet to get slim overnight.

I, myself, has learned the hard way that those pounds and inches takes more then just a couple months to come off. I am starting my routine now. So, when those winter months pass by, I’ll have that jump start on my spring. 8 months until summer, that seems so far away. It will be here before we know it.

Wait until Spring

If you only have a few pounds to lose, waiting until Spring will probably be alright. But if you have more then just a few pounds, like me, why are you going to wait until spring to try to lose those pounds? I am going to get a jump start on mine right now. So, when spring comes along, I’ll already have done all the work and just enjoying the results.

Working Toward Your Goals

 

Every Step Counts

Things may keep you away from working out on a daily bases. But don’t let it discourage you into giving up. Every little bit of time you spend on your goals is better than not working on them at all. Every step counts, even if it’s only a baby step.

With life, we all have those unexpected things that come up. We can’t put them on the back burner, so to speak. Once you get into a routine in life’s duties, there’s always something that will give us a side step. That happens to everyone. Our lives never go as we have planned them.

Don’t let your side steps keep you from your goals. It will put you a step behind, but you can always make that step up if you keep trying.

My exercise routine has had many side steps. And it has put me behind on my goals. But I’m not giving up. Cause if I do give up, I won’t go anywhere but backwards. A small step is better than none at all. That is what I keep telling myself.

I should be reaching my goals right now if it wasn’t for all my side steps and unexpected problems. But I’m not letting it get me down. I’m not letting it discourage me into giving up.

 

Finding other ways

One good thing about an exercise routine is you can do something every day to add to it. It may not be exactly the plan you have started out with though.

I was gone for a couple weeks last month. It kept me away from the routine I had planned. But I found some other ways to keep myself working on my goals. I have a routine with the Bowflex Max Trainer M5. But with me being away for those weeks, I couldn’t use it. I had to come up with other ways to work on my goals. Taking a walk, using the stairs, and even using the bedroom floor to do my stretches. I had to do some compromising with my plans. I had to work it to my advantage. I didn’t let it get me down. I didn’t stop working on my goals cause I couldn’t do it as I have planned.

Once I did get back home to my Max Trainer, I started right back up on my exercise routine. Some people will just give up if they get side stepped. Some people will give up on it all if they don’t even see the result right away. This is only hurting themselves. I could have not worked out at all while I was away. That would have put me even further behind on my goals. Every little bit helps.

 

Working through your problems

I see many people that won’t even try to work out. They use the excuses like… I don’t have the time, or I have a bad knee, or even, I can’t stick with it, so why try.

Just 14 Minutes A Day

First, NO TIME…  

It only takes 14 minutes a day with the Bowflex Max Trainer. And it only takes a few more minutes a day to walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Or how about, parking just a little further from the store.

Instead of sitting in front of a television in the evenings, take a short walk down the street and back. Or even walking around the house. Any little bit is better than none at all. And you can always find a few minutes here and there during the day to do some kind of exercise.

Second, Bad Knee…

The Bowflex Max Trainer is designed for low impact on your joints. And there are other exercises you can do by sitting on a chair. Working around your handicap, it’s not really all that hard to do if you give it a try. I have a bad knee from an accident years ago. I have found that exercise builds strength in my knee.

Third, Can’t stick with an exercise program…

It takes 30 days to form a new habit. A few minutes a day for 30 days, that’s not much work at all. Once you start working out and seeing the results, that will give you the motivation to keep on going.

Take a 30-day challenge. Challenge yourself. Leave a comment here on what you plan on doing to help yourself become more fit and healthy. What will you try for the next month? It could be something small like parking further away, taking the stairs at least once a day or taking a walk around the block every day ( great if you have a dog. They need the exercise too). And in 30 days, check back in and give me your success story.
If you can’t do this one day, don’t give up. Do it the next day. Every little bit helps. Don’t get discouraged when you can’t work out on day. Tomorrow is another day to try again.

Motivation Is Key

Motivation is the key to achievement. Why do we stop working out? Lack of motivation. That is the number one reason why everyone stops working out.

We all have 24 hours in a day. What we do with it is all up to us. Setting our priorities is how we achieve what we need to do. What are the most important things we need to get done today? How are we wasting our time? Are we being as productive as we should be? Some questions we need to ask ourselves at time.

Some ways we are wasting our own time:

  • Watching too much television (that’s number1 )
  • Facebook or any other social media (that’s a close number 2)
  • Spending too much time on the phone (usually gossiping)
  • Sleeping (some of us don’t need to sleep 10 to 12 hours a night)
  • Spending too much time shopping (I know a few people that spends hours in a store just looking around)
  • Anything that’s not too important

Once we figure out what’s important and what’s not, than we can delete some things that are wasting our time.

Motivation can lead to what’s important in our lives. If we are excited about doing something, we move it to the top of the list of things to do.

How can we keep our motivation up? How can we find our motivation?

Just 14 Minutes A Day

Pep Talk

Giving ourselves a pep talk works better than you think. Standing in front of a mirror and tell yourself you are going to do it. Talking to the person in the mirror and call that person by name. Talk to them as if you are giving them the pep talk. And wanting to lose weight, here’s a good way to give that pep talk; Do it naked! When you see those extra pounds you want to lose, this should be enough motivation Tell that person in the mirror that they no longer want that fat. Tell them to get their butts in gear and go work it off. This personally helped me. Stand in front of a mirror naked after a shower. Just stand there and look. Give yourself your pep talk than.

If you are no good at giving your self the pep talk, ask a close friend to do it for you. Finding someone close to you that can motivate you is wonderful. Someone that can check up on you often to give you that pep talk. It can be done over a short phone call, a text message, or better yet, coming over and working out with you.

 

Partner in Crime

Finding someone with the same goals is great to have around. Set up a time of day that is good for both of you. Take turns meeting at each others home, going to the gym, or just grabbing them up when you want to take a walk. Instead of talking on the phone back and forth, go for a walk together. You can do your talking than. This will also keep your mind off of walking. It won’t feel like a work out than.

 

Screen savers

Pretty much everyone has a computer or cell phone nowadays. Make your screen saver a motivation quote. Every time you turn on your computer or phone, it will be there for you to see. Make it a quote that you can relate to, something that catches your attention.

Put a little post it notes on the refrigerator or mirror that has a motivational quote on it. Something to remind you what your goal is.

 

Display your dream outfit

Want to get into this outfit that’s too small? Place it where you can see it. Make a goal to get into this outfit by a certain time. Place it where you can see it when you get up in the morning, or make it the first outfit you see when opening your closet. Want to get into that bikini next summer? Place it on the inside of your closet door. When you open your closet, you will see it. This will remind you of your goal.

Promise yourself or a friend that you are going to wear this next summer. And give a date. And you are going to wear it whether you lose the weight or not. This is a good way to get you going. Cause do you really want to wear it IF you don’t lose the weight? Maybe you have a wedding to go to or a party in a few months, Make it a point that you are wearing this outfit there. But be realistic. If you are a size 20 and you pick an outfit to wear next month, make it a size or two smaller. Don’t try to get into a size 4.

 

Rewards

Little rewards for the little things you achieve. Set your rewards to your accomplishments.

  • You worked out today – a pat on the back.
  • You worked out all week – take that extra long bubble bath.
  • You worked out all month without missing a day – Buy yourself a little something you had your eye on. Just something little. Don’t break your piggy bank.
  • You lost 10 pounds – reward yourself with a little treat. Again, just a little. Don’t eat the whole cake and put those 10 pounds back on.
  • You lost 20 pounds – reward yourself with a nice healthy dinner out. Yes, I said HEALTHY!

The bigger the accomplishments, the bigger the reward.

 

Read

Reading articles on success stories. When you read about others with the same goals and problems and how they overcame them, it gives you motivation. Their stories tell you, if they can do it, you can too.

Reading motivational quotes though out the day. This is like giving yourself pep talks. Pick out a few good ones and keep them in mind. Keep telling yourself this quotes though the day.

 

Setting Priorities

Go through your life, your day, and take notes on what you do through the day. Look at all you do that isn’t prosperous. Do you spend too much time on things that are just a waste of time? What is important in your life? What are the things you NEED to do and what are the things that you can do away with.

 

The Mind Set

The way you look at things can improve your priorities. If you always looked at working out as a chore or a punishment, than setting your motivation on doing this will be hard. Start setting your thoughts on working out as something that will improve your life. Something that will get you to a goal that will make you feel good about yourself. Don’t make it something you dread to do. Make it into something that will make you happy. All you have to do is get over the hard part and things will go smoother.

It’s like climbing the mountain. Everyone hates the work on climbing. But once we get to the top and see all the beauty, it makes the climb not as hard. Knowing what lies at the end should be the goal you keep your eye on. Don’t look at all the hard work that will get you there. Keep your goal in sight. Not the path itself.

There are many ways to keep your motivation up. The ways to build by motivation is different than yours. The reasons why may be different. One may want to lose weight for health reasons. And the other person may want to lose the weight just to look good and feel better.

Dress the Part

Dressing the Part

Bowflex also carries their own workout clothes and accessories. Not just the perfect workout equipment! They also carries accessories to help your workout go more smoothly. Towels, water bottles, tank tops, and hoodies.

When we start getting into shape and losing those few extra pounds, people around us will start to notice. What I like to do when they start asking how I’m doing it, I just show them my tank top or hoodie I have on and say… Bowflex… and that’s when the questions begin. Summer is Among Us

I do this every summer… I wait until it’s here and time to go get that bathing suit on. Then I want to kick myself in the rear end. I’ve gained those extra pounds over the winter. I let myself go. AGAIN! I should have learned by now. Why do we wait until summer until we realize we need to lose a few extra pounds? Why do we keep procrastinating to get into shape? We know summer comes every year. We know not every once has that perfect body. Most of us have to work at it.

Working on losing those extra pounds. Working on keeping up with our diets. Working on being fit. Sometimes I think it’s just way too much work. I don’t have the time to work out in the gym for hours every day. I have so much other things to do then to do that.

I found the Max Trainer from Bowflex. It only takes 14 minutes of our day. I can do 14 minutes. Much better then hours at the gym, not including the trip to the gym and back. I don’t have time for that.

Now that Summer is among us! Getting ready for that vacation at the beach? Do you want to feel confident to wear that bathing suit? Yes? Still feeling like you need to lose a few extra pounds you put on through the winter? Yes?

Tax Time


Spring is among us. The days are getting longer, the temperature is warming up, and we are looking forward to spring flowers and getting out of the house. But we are also crunching numbers for tax time. Looking forward to a refund? What can we do with the extra money? Pay off bills, plan a small vacation, or are we looking for some extra cash to get something we’ve been wanting to help us in the future? Investing in our future, now every one can relate to that. How about investing in our health?

Our health seems to always be put on the “back burner” because there are other things that seem to pop up, like bills, car repairs, and home repairs. But with out our health to live from day to day, we – well, I hate to say it, wont be around to need  those things.

Our health should be our number one concern. And with a little bit of our time, we can keep ourselves in great health to enjoy life much longer.
